Darko Butina has extensive
experience and an impressive track-record in drug discovery and research
strategy. After a first degree in Engineering and Chemistry at the University of Zagreb, Darko went on gain a
Ph.D in synthetic organic chemistry in the US before joining UCL (London) as a post-doctoral
fellow. Darko joined Glaxo in 1979, where he developed critical areas of the
company’s drug development capabilities and was one of the team who invented
Sumatriptan, a GSK blockbuster and one of the worlds
most important anti-migraine drugs. Darko has been promoted to several senior
roles in drug discovery, later becoming Director of Computational Chemistry and
Chemoinformatics at ArQule, where he was a leading member of the company’s
international development team. Darko has extensive project development
experience, has strong technical and commercial links in the discovery field
and extensive publications. Darko brings experience, creativity, a pragmatic
approach, vision and high-level problem solving skills to drug discovery and is
able to communicate across diverse skills groups including medicinal chemistry,
programming, analysis and biology.
